Tell Rachel Reeves: bin this rubbish tax.
The cost of building in Britain is too high. A 3,000% tax increase on rubble would send it soaring even higher.
Tax on rubbish sent to landfill is charged at two different rates. £126 per tonne for the kind of rubbish we stick in household bins. £4 per tonne for rocks, soil and concrete dug up during building.
The treasury has proposed charging the £126 per tonne rate for both types, treating rocks and soil from building like black bin bags.
This plan would lay waste to building just about anything Britian needs, adding a massive new cost to new homes, transport and energy projects.
The Chancellor must think again and bin this rubbish tax.
