Tell Ed Miliband: Make Cheaper Energy Priority Number One
With events in the Middle East sending the price of gas soaring once again, Britain already has the highest industrial energy costs in the world and the second highest household energy bills in Europe.
These prices are terrible for the cost of living. They’re killing British businesses and dragging down our economic growth. We have the answers to getting bills down, but that won’t happen unless the Government pursues cheap energy relentlessly.
We need a covid vaccine rollout mindset for cheaper power. Here's how:
- Rapidly implement plans to make homegrown nuclear energy cheaper by the end of the year, insulating us from international supply shocks.
- Reform the energy market to cut waste. We've built up a renewables industry, it's time to bring down subsidies and let it stand on its own two feet.
- Retire the carbon tax. It got coal off the grid, but that job is done. Unnecessary taxes and levies should come off bills.
