Unless we act now, Britain will be without any nuclear power on the grid in 2029. Switching off this clean form of power when we don't have to risks higher energy bills, our energy security and millions of tonnes of new CO₂ in the atmosphere by burning dirty imported gas to plug the gap.

If we do nothing, nuclear will fall entirely off the grid when our only station scheduled to stay online past 2028 closes for maintenance in 2029. This is the impact of not having completed a new nuclear power station in nearly thirty years.

Here’s how we avoid this: by safely extending the life of some of our existing fleet of nuclear reactors.

Extending the life of nuclear power plants beyond the date they were expected to close is normal practice across the world. In fact, we're doing it at the Sizewell B nuclear power station in the UK right now.

Tell the Government to make the obvious, sensible and safe decision to:

  • Extend the use of our advanced gas cooled reactors, Heysham 2 and Torness
  • Save households almost £100 on energy bills
  • Prevent the release of nearly 9 million tonnes of CO₂
