Britain Remade welcomes Wylfa SMR announcement - Britain Remade

Responding to the announcement that Anglesey will be home to UK’s first small modular reactor, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:

“Today’s announcement is fantastic news for Ynys Môn, North Wales, and for Britain’s clean energy future. The decision to make Wylfa home to the UK’s first small modular reactor marks a major step forward in delivering the next generation of nuclear power.

“Britain Remade has long campaigned for new nuclear at Wylfa, and this announcement shows what’s possible when government matches ambition with action. If we want to cut bills and boost energy security, we need to make it quicker, easier, and cheaper to build nuclear power stations like this across the country. The Wylfa SMR must be the first step in rolling out a fleet of mini nuclear power stations, not the last.

“Now Wylfa can once again be a powerhouse for British innovation, creating thousands of good-quality, well-paid jobs on the island and across the local economy.”
