Responding to the National Infrastructure Commission report on Britain’s electricity grid Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“A modern, flexible grid is essential to powering the industries of the future, cutting energy costs for households, and ensuring businesses can connect quickly and efficiently.
“For too long, slow grid connections and bureaucratic red-tape have held back investment, innovation, and job creation. Ofgem must embrace a new, pro-growth approach that encourages investment, removes barriers to expansion, and delivers a network capable of supporting the new nuclear power stations and renewables that are needed to deliver the government’s mission of a clean grid by 2030.
“The upcoming planning bill needs to lay out concrete measures that will ensure Britain can build an electricity grid fit for the 21st century; this can only be achieved by reforming our outdated planning system.”
