Responding to the latest ONS house price data, Sam Richards CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“Experts might see the slight fall in London house prices as the market “cooling”, but millions of people are still being priced out of decent housing, condemned to sky-high rents or crippling mortgages. A small fall in headline prices doesn’t change the reality in the capital: London remains wildly unaffordable. The only way to fix this is to get London building again, especially in the best connected parts of the city.
“Across Britain, house prices are rising and rents are up, proof that there is no end in sight for Britain’s housing shortage. This government was elected on a promise to build 1.5 million homes by the next election, but on current build rates they’ll barely deliver half that. They now need to hold their nerve on plans to make it easier to build around stations, and other changes in the national planning policies, if they’re to have a chance of delivering on the promises.”
