Britain Remade responds to the Government’s latest emissions reduction target
Responding to the Government’s latest emissions reduction target, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“The only way we are going to meet this new target is by slashing the time it takes to build new sources of clean energy.
“We already have the technology we need; it is our sclerotic planning system that means it can take more than a decade for an offshore wind farm to be built and connected to the grid. The decision by the Coalition Government not to push forward with building new nuclear power stations has also cast a long shadow over efforts to cut emissions.
“To speed up the planning system, ministers must urgently publish the Planning and Infrastructure Bill so that we have a planning system fit for the 21st century. By making it easier to build, not only will this cut emissions, but millions of households across the country can benefit from cheaper energy bills.”
