Commenting on the government’s AI Action Plan Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“Artificial Intelligence has the potential to be game-changing for the economy and powering growth. So, it is right that the government should do all it can to make sure people up and down Britain benefit from the technology.
“Anything that speeds up the building of economy boosting infrastructure is hugely welcome, but it should not take a government Action Plan to smash through the red tape and bureaucracy that far too often holds back building the infrastructure we need. The idea that a plan for building a data centre in Buckinghamshire can be rejected because of its impact on views from motorway bridges is simply astonishing, even if it was eventually given the green light by the Deputy Prime Minister.
“To provide the clean power needed to power British AI data centres we need to reduce the cost, along with the time it takes, to build new nuclear and make it as easy as possible to locate data centres and Small Modular Reactors together.”
