Responding to Sir Keir Starmer’s speech this morning on growth Sam Richards, founder and Campaign Director for pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“From new labs to clean energy projects, Sir Keir Starmer has set out a bold vision to get Britain building, delivering the jobs creating infrastructure the country desperately needs.
“But this can only be achieved by overhauling our outdated planning system that currently bans onshore wind, the cheapest form of energy available, and means it can take up to 13 years for an offshore wind farm to go from idea to generating power.
“While Labour’s plan promises to update the planning system, there is still too little detail on how this will be done to remove barriers to investment in new industries.
“In a few weeks’ time Britain Remade will be publishing a roadmap for Britain to be energy independent by 2030 delivering cheaper bills and cutting our reliance on foreign gas. At the heart of this will be planning reforms that will unleash the full potential of clean energy in Britain and deliver thousands of jobs Sir Keir says he wants to see created.”
