Responding to Steve Reed’s evidence at the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, Sam Richards CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“The admission from the Housing Secretary that, long delayed, new rules that would have put an end to planning applications longer than War and Peace and introduced an ‘automatic yes’ for homes near train stations will not be statutory is disappointing in the extreme.
“Steve Reed has been at pains to portray himself as being on the side of the builders since taking up his new role, unfortunately this decision shows a total lack of ambition putting him firmly on the side of the blockers. The result will be less homes being built in the areas that need them the most.”
