Britain Remade responds to plans to double onshore wind in England

Responding to the government’s pledge to almost double onshore wind in England by 2030, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:

“This is a huge step forward. Doubling onshore wind will cut bills, boost energy security, and create tens of thousands of good jobs in every part of the country. Ending the ban was the right call - now we’re seeing the benefits of that decision turn into action.

“But to fully unlock the potential of onshore wind, we urgently need to modernise our outdated energy grid. Right now, wind farms are being paid to switch off because the grid can’t handle the clean power they generate. That’s a waste of money, energy, and opportunity.

“Reforming the grid must go hand-in-hand with expanding renewables. If we get this right, Britain can lead the world in clean energy and reap the rewards at home.”
