Responding to oil passing $100 a barrel, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:
“The surge in oil prices past $100 a barrel in the wake of the war with Iran underscores Britain’s dangerous dependence on volatile international energy markets. This crisis is yet another wake-up call to accelerate our shift to clean, secure, homegrown energy.
“In the coming weeks, the high oil prices we are seeing will be felt by drivers at the pump. We must speed up the rollout of EV charging points and rapidly reform the grid queue so that charging stations are not left unused because they cannot secure a connection to the grid.
“The government must immediately approve the Fingleton Review in full and commit to passing emergency legislation where necessary to speed up building British nuclear so we can have the secure clean electricity we need.
“We can achieve energy independence, slash household bills, and insulate our economy from global shocks. But Britain must get building again to realise this vision.”
