Britain Remade responds to new greenbelt rules

Responding to the new rules for greenbelt development near train stations, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:

“If we’re serious about fixing the housing crisis, we have to stop pretending that protecting land next to train stations is more important than giving people homes. A ‘default yes’ for building well-designed, high-density homes near stations is common sense: it cuts traffic, boosts local economies and puts homes where people actually want to live.

“This is one of the key planning reforms Britain Remade has called for, so it is good to see the government delivering on their rhetoric.

“For too long, the planning system has blocked the obvious and rewarded delay. Building up as well as out, within walking distance of train stations, is how you deliver homes at scale. This backs builders, not blockers and is a vital step towards getting Britain building again.”
