Britain Remade responds to Labour's ‘permanent’ mortgage guarantee pledge

Responding to Labour’s pledge to support first-time buyers with a ‘permanent’ mortgage guarantee, Sam Richards, founder and campaign director at Britain Remade, said:

“Any party that is serious about helping young people onto the housing ladder needs to focus relentlessly on building the homes Britain needs. This is the only way to bring down house prices and once again put owning a home within reach for young people who can’t call on the Bank of Mum and Dad.

“That's why I’m glad Labour have once again re-committed to building 1.5m homes within the next parliament. Building the beautiful, energy efficient homes the country needs will also help tackle climate change.

“Our latest polling shows that 45% of voters think that Britain doesn’t build enough new homes in and around our major cities, while Keir Starmer is trusted by more than 2 to 1 over the prime minister to actually get these homes built. But he won’t be able to do this without a radical overhaul of the planning system.”
