Britain Remade responds to Cornwall Insight's July energy price cap prediction

Responding to the latest analysis from Cornwall Insight for the July energy price cap, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:

“Billpayers are facing yet another price rise due to events beyond our control. This shows just how important it is that we build far more secure clean domestic energy infrastructure.

Government needs a 'vaccine taskforce' mindset applied to cheaper energy. In the short term they should retire the carbon tax; it’s done its job in getting coal off the grid. New subsidies for industry due to be added to bills should be scrapped.

In the medium term the government must look again at its decision not to reform the grid by moving to a system of local prices. This would mean lower bills for households across the country, but especially those who live need clean energy generation.

“Finally the long term solution is the renaissance of British nuclear. The Fingleton Review laid out how we can build new nuclear power stations faster and cheaper. Emergency legislation should be introduced now to fix the issues and usher in a new age of British nuclear energy.
