Britain Remade responds to Cornwall Insight 10% increase warning for July energy bills

Responding to the latest analysis from Cornwall Insight warning of a 10% increase in energy bills from July, Sam Richards, CEO of pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade, said:

“Another global energy shock pushing up bills shows why Britain must end its dependence on volatile international gas markets.

“The consequences of the war with Iran for millions of billpayers shows why it is important to build far more clean power here at home, from renewables to new nuclear power. That means implementing the recommendations of the Fingleton Review in full so we can build new nuclear power stations faster and cheaper.

“The government should also look again at its decision not to reform the grid by moving to a system of local prices. This would mean lower bills for households across the country, but especially those who live need clean energy generation.

“Britain has the resources to produce cheap, secure energy domestically. What’s missing is a planning system that allows us to build fast. If we want stable bills and energy security, we need to remove the barriers and start building much faster.”
